Good Paris restaurants now fill up days or weeks ahead — but booking is easier than ever, and you don't need a word of French. The complete playbook.
The booking hierarchy
1. Online (Zenchef, TheFork widgets on restaurant sites): real-time availability, instant confirmation, English interface. 2. Email: fine for groups and special requests. 3. Phone: call between 4-6pm, never during service. Magic phrase if needed: « Bonjour, une table pour deux ce soir, s'il vous plaît ? » — accent irrelevant, effort appreciated.
Timing & insider tricks
Neighborhood bistro: 1-3 days ahead. Hot tables: 1-2 weeks. Always mention occasions (birthday, proposal) — French houses honor them. Everything "full"? Try 7pm slots, Tuesday nights, or the bar. And know which restaurants open Sunday-Monday when options shrink.
